Phoenix's Salt River Project wanted to implement a smart grid solution that would increase customer satisfaction, improve services, and lessen energy consumtion during peak hours. SRP selected Elster's EnergyAxis System to be deployed to nearly 1 million accounts, enablign the utility to enact and expand TOU pricing programs, improve responsiveness to customer service requests, and provide customers with valuable insight into billing and consumption patterns.

The Smart Grid Done Right
Salt River Project needed to eliminate costly truck rolls, improve employee safety, and increase operating efficiency. SRP selected Elster's EnergyAxis System to be deployed to nearly 1 million residential and commercial locations, enabling the utility to perform remote connect/disconnects, drive down operational costs, and improve response time to customer service requests.

Toronto Hydro-Electric System expands Elster’s EnergyAxis¨ System to meet its smart metering needs

In 2006, Toronto Hydro-Electric announced that they would deploy 400,000 EnergyAxis electricity meters for the first phase of the Ontario Smart Meter Initiative, one of the largest AMI projects in the world using interval data for residential metering. "After testing the system for a year we concluded that the EnergyAxis System is suited for our interval data metering needs," says Blair Peberdy, Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs at Toronto Hydro Corporation. "Elster Metering (Canada) has to date demonstrated its ability to meet Toronto Hydro’s requirements for reliable delivery of large quantities of Measurement Canada sealed meters and provide local technical support."

Now, in 2009, Toronto Hydro has almost 600,000 EnergyAxis smart meters deployed and has launched a successful web portal where consumers can go for information on their consumption and costs. The web portal is fed from information directly from the EnergyAxis System. Over 350,000 consumers are connected via the web portal, enabling Toronto Hydro to build momentum toward a successful conservation program.
